Wake Me Up Inside

My mobile phone's alarm clock let me down last New Year's Eve. I was supposed to wake up at around 9:00 PM to prepare for my 11:00 PM shift but I woke up 20 minutes past 11:00 PM. I immediately sent a text message to my supervisor that I was going to be late. It turned out my alarm tone was not as loud as it used to be. It was hard to fix the issue because my phone does not have volume adjustment for alarm settings. I tried testing the alarm while in the taxi on the way to work but my phone only produced a faint sound. So, I did the necessary troubleshooting steps. During the 20-minute ride, I performed second level reset, backed up my contacts and data, and performed a master reset to no avail. Dang!!! What a way to start the new year, late for work...

I roped my sister into waking me up at night every time I would have a shift. There were times though that my sister would forget to wake me up or was just confused by my erratic work hours. I finally gave in and bought a traditional wind-up spring-driven alarm clock. It would produce a ringing sound so loud, I could not snooze even for a few minutes.

Seeing Double 2

Let's take a matching-type test.

Match the pictures in the left-hand column with their respective look-alikes in the right-hand column. Let's start with the guys first.

How about the girls?

Now, we are going to do a weirder "seeing double" matching exercise.
Look at the four sets of pictures and try to find celebrities and their uncanny doubles.

(Just click on the image to see in detail.)

That's it for now. I have actually been planning to do an interactive matching type activity. But I cannot find a widget that will make it possible.

Coming up in the next few days... or weeks... or months... depending on my schedule), I will be featuring some of the people I personally know and their respective celebrity doubles.

Seeing Double (Premiere)

This will be my first installment in the soon to be regular blog entry that I call, "Seeing Double".
I hope the title speaks for itself.

First up, the Muñoz brothers of Estopa. I have noticed that David and Jose Manuel have counterparts in our local showbiz: Ian Veneracion and Gerald Anderson.

This is David Muñoz, vocalist of the Spanish band, Estopa.

He looks a lot like the former child actor (now drama and action star), Ian Veneracion. I hear Ian is of Spanish descent so the Hispanic blood may have to do with their similarities. Who knows, they may be distant relatives. They are almost the same age as well.

Can you tell me which is David and which is Ian?

Now, here are pictures of David's younger brother and Estopa's guitarist and vocalist, Jose.

I find that Philippine's up and coming matinee idol, Gerald Anderson seem to resemble him in some angles. Although, Gerald sports a cleaner, more wholesome look than Jose and he is also a lot younger than our Spanish musician so he looks younger.

Well, that's it for now. Watch out for the next installment.

The Baditch Escapades

I made this slide presentation a few months ago. I thought since it had been a while since I posted anything on this blog, I would just introduce some of my friends from work through this slide presentation.
Here goes...

Had it not been for these guys, my life probably would be mundane. So thanks guys for cheering me up and making life at work bearable.

PDA Blues

I have been feeling a little down for a few minutes now so I decided to post this blog. The reason for this mood is of course, the results of the Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2. I have been looking forward to the results night since I have spent a substantial amount just to vote for my favorite scholar, Bugoy. I have been nervous about it. My intuition also tells me that song from The Sound of Music is a bad choice just because it's not one of my favorite songs from the musical although very apt for his situation (and at least he has not yodeled that goat song.)

When they have announced Cris as the 6th placer, I am not surprised but I am a little sad because she has something unique to offer. Although I have to admit that her kind of performance will appeal to a more sophisticated crowd and since the masses has to decide, she just has to look for other avenues to shine.

Van has bagged fifth place. That guys, is a big surprise for me. I know Van does not have the best voice. I find his singing, as Simon Cowell calls it, "too karaoke". But just looking at him reminds me of Ethan Ruan, the Taiwanese idol who has taken Asia by storm with the popular drama, Fated to Love You. So I know he has what it takes to be a star. He has the X Factor, period. So, I predict that like JR Siaboc of last year's PDA fame, he will shine in primetime dramas or youth oriented shows. I can also forsee him joining the ranks of Sam Milby and Jake Cuenca in the group, Coverboys.

The biggest letdown of all is when they have announced the beauteous Liezel as fourth placer. What???? Miguel is in top 3? I have been so frustrated that I...I...I do not know what to say anymore.

Well, the truth is, I have made such a ruckus that my mother has given me sharp looks. Here is how I reacted: (1) denial "No, did I hear it right? I think they have said Miguel is 4th placer"; (2) anger "THIS IS STUPID! I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT FILIPINOS CAN BE THIS STUPID!"; (3) bargaining "It's alright as long as Miguel gets third place and Bugoy wins. That is all that matters. Lord, please make sure Miguel gets 3rd place. I hope you can manipulate the results with your omnipotence."; and of course, (4) depression "I'm so sad...just so sad... Liezel deserves to be in the top 3 but this has to happen." But do not worry about it guys, I have excellent coping mechanisms. I have gotten over it in just a few minutes. Right up to the time they announced the third placer.

And third place goes to...I keep muttering, "Miguel, it has to be Miguel." So when they have announced Miguel's name I have not been able to hear it. It has been my mother who has told me. "Thank you, Lord. I have never doubted you." Hehe, I have started to get back to my bubbly self. I guess, Miguel's edge is that he has a better voice than Cris and Van, he has more experience in this kind of competition (remember Pinoy Idol? I believe he has been the third runner up or something), and he has family relatives that have enough resources to vote. But whatever he does, I find him too bland, too boring, too cold..brrrrr.

I am so ecstatic. Bugoy has 50% chance. I keep repeating, "Scholar B is Bugoy, I can feel it in my bones." But of course my father has to spoil my fun by saying, it's Laarni. You see, he has been rooting for her. He is easily impressed by her big voice. But I guess, his word is so prophetic because when the second placer is announced, they have said Bugoy's name and I have just released a big sigh.

Bugoy's story is like a fairy tale. But unlike fairy tales where the girl gets the prince and lives happily ever after and nothing bad ever happens afterward, his fairy tale is not as clichéd. He does not get his prince. He has not been able to bag the crown. Neither can he live in the palace as it was given to another princess. But a lot of people say that Bugoy's fairy tale is far from over. He is just in the first chapters. He will have to overcome a lot of tribulations that will come his way. Showbiz is a big dark forest he has to conquer and it has it's own share of the wicked stepmother, the ugly stepsisters, the evil witch and the big bad wolf to name a few. I am disheartened for Bugoy since he has only won second place but after hearing him speak, I have felt better. He has come a long way.

I know I am rationalizing everything to make me feel better but Freud has said that it is also a healthy to use defense mechanisms as long as I do not overdo it.

Well, Laarni gets the crown and the palace. But at least she has not gotten the prince. My father is right with his prediction. (Now, I am really wondering if he has the power of precognition.) She deserves it, since among the scholars, she has the most versatile voice. She can sing anything and she can do anything with her voice. Although, it's very anticlimactic for me, watching Laarni try to sing as she bawl her eyes out. She has lost her poise somewhat when she has crouched down. I have a feeling by the time she looks at the playback, she will be mortified.

I cannot help feeling dejected for Bugoy. But wait a minute, Bugoy has still won himself a Sony Bravia while I'm stuck with my Philips 29PT3425/71 which by the way is not functioning because the technician at the service center is too sick to come (or is it just an excuse for the possibility that he cannot really repair the tv? Darn. I just bought it over a year ago) So I have to fight over the remote for our old Sony Trinitron with my mom who loves watching teleseryes until midnight (eeew). He also has a Sony VAIO while I have to make do with my Acer Aspire 4520G although come to think of it, I am happy with it; it serves it's purpose like Jao's Dell (which by the way is everybody's friend). He also has this kitchen showcase from Whirlpool. The only Whirlpool appliance in my house is the refrigerator and the washing machine, which is so rusty and worn out since it is really old. And of course, he has 500,000 pesos in cash while I have to make do with my measly monthly salary which is usually gone by the next day. I have bills to pay, you know.

Bugoy is really one lucky bloke. After all, he can still win his prince. But the question is, will it be Sen or Van? Or maybe he will decide to look for a princess instead. Who knows?

Computer Wrist

Lately, I find myself spending a lot of time in front of the computer doing a lot of chatting, surfing, socializing, and video editing. I think I have really overdone it since I have developed what we have dubbed as "mouse mark" on my wrist. My right wrist has a dark spot that has been a result of constant rubbing on the computer table while moving and clicking the mouse.

It is not something exclusive to me. All my friends are developing the same condition. Take a look at my friend's wrist. She also has that dark spot. I believe a lot of people may be suffering from the same condition. They may not just be aware of it. How about you?
